HOW DOES THE TV SHIELD® MOUNT?

The enclosure is mounted “sandwiched” between the TV and any standard “store bought” VESA TV mount. We also offer specific mounts that we have selected which are of great value and offer all the features you could want.

WHAT IS THE TV SHIELD®?

The TV Shield® is the ultimate in indoor and outdoor TV protection. The TV Shield™ outdoor TV enclosure and cover is designed to be protect from water, weather, flying objects, and theft. It is the solution to being able to use regular everyday TVs (not expensive outdoor TVs) in an outdoor environment while also securing the TV against theft and damage, outdoors, or indoors.

WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE TV SHIELD, THE DISPLAY SHIELD, & THE TV SHIELD PRO?

The TV Shield is a “residential grade” enclosure at a lower price point which can open and close easily for direct viewing and listening of the TV or display. The Lexan Polycarbonate shield is hinged at the top with prop arms that can be used to keep the shield up. There are two (2) chambered locks for security. Fans and heaters don’t come standard but can be ordered as an option. The HMWPE housing and Polycarbonate shield gauge thickness varies depending on the size of the enclosures.

The Display Shield is a “commercial grade” enclosure that comes standard with security screws used all the way around the Polycarbonate shield. When the screws are removed, the front shield lifts entirely off the unit (the front cannot be propped open like The TV Shield). This is perfect for those who intend to put the TV or display in and leave it closed, sealed, and secure at all times.

All HMWPE housings and Polycarbonate shields are heavier gauge for a stiffer stronger body. Fans come standard on all The Display Shields and two (2) fans are used on the large enclosures.

The TV Shield PRO is a "professional grade" enclosure that is built with a combination of lightweight aluminum and steel. The TV Shield PRO's proprietary "Quick Install" system is faster to install and maintain than other metal enclosures and effortlessly opens with gas shocks for easy access to the TV. It comes with an internal full motion mount, the entire unit is secured with dual high strength chambered key locks, and it comes with a thermostatically controlled and filtered air circulation system. The TV Shield PRO comes standard with an anti-glare Polycarbonate front shield (ultra-clear is available) and has larger size options up to an industry-first 85 inches.

HOW DO THE SPEAKERS SOUND IN THE TV SHIELD®?

All TVs are different and have varying levels of speaker systems. Most of the time you can hear just fine by simply turning your TV up about 1/3rd higher than your normal listening volume.

The TV Shield’s Polycarbonate cover can be raised on its hinge and propped open with its standard prop arms to make enhance use of the TV’s speakers.

When The TV Shield® is used in the closed position, TV sound volume is reduced. Some people want to improve sound overall in any case with their TV, especially in outdoor or loud environments. So, use of The TV Shield® outdoor speaker kit is recommended if you plan to watch in the closed position or want overall improved sound.

The Display Shield has been designed with a semi permanently affixed front panel so in some cases external speaker systems are recommended. Again, it all depends on the quality of your TV or displays internal speaker system.

HOW DO YOU GET YOUR TV TO MOVE FORWARD IN THE TV SHIELD®?

All sizes with the exception of the extra small units come with built in Spacer Kits to push the TV or display to the front. A separate Spacer Kit that is not already built in is also provided for the extra small enclosures. This Spacer Kit is designed to allow you to set your display or TV 2" further off the back of The Display Shield enclosure moving it closer to the clear front panel. You get better viewing, cooling, and cable clearance in the back with this spacer kit.

IS SUN GLARE AN ISSUE AND HOW CAN IT BE ADDRESSED?

Anti-glare front panels either come standard or are offered with our enclosures, depending on the model. Using an anti-glare front panel in most situations will help reduce glare but not always. Click here to learn more about reducing glare.

IS THERE A THERMOSTAT OR AUTO OFF FEATURE ON THE FANS?

All fans and heaters are thermostatically controlled. Fans turn on at 88 degrees and off at 78 degrees. Heaters turn on at 39° F and turn off at 48° F

WHERE DO THE TV SHIELD® AND THE TV SHIELD PRO™ SHIP FROM?

PEC has multiple shipping locations. Most accessories will ship from our corporate location in Florida. All The TV Shield® enclosures will ship from our Kansas location and most mounts and select accessories will ship from New York or Florida. The TV Shield PRO units ship from Erie, PA. WHAT KIND OF MATERIALS ARE THE TV SHIELD AND THE TV SHIELD PRO™ MADE OUT OF?

We researched and tested scores of materials (metals, coated wood/synthetic wood products, fiberglass, and many plastics) until we found the perfect solution. The TV Shield® outdoor weather and water-resistant TV enclosure and cover is crafted from a premium, flexible material because of its strong, water-resistant, scratch resistant, and UV resistant properties. The housing of the TV Shield is made from HMWP or High Molecular Weight Polyethylene. The front panel is made from ultra-clear LEXAN Polycarbonate.

The TV Shield PRO™ housing is built with a combination of lightweight aluminum and steel which is powder-coated for the ultimate strength and durability in environmental TV protection. It comes standard with an anti-glare polycarbonate front shield. Polycarbonate is the same material used in bullet proof glass, racecar, and spacecraft windshields, which is not just shatter-resistant, but shatterproof, unlike the cheaper safety glass used in other protective TV cabinet options (ultra-clear is available).

DOES THE TV ENCLOSURE PROTECT THE BACK AS WELL AS THE FRONT OF AN OUTSIDE TV?

Yes, The TV Shield® and The TV Shield PRO are complete TV enclosures and protect your TV 360°. The TV mounts inside of the outdoor TV enclosure.

WILL THE OUTDOOR TV COVER WORK WITH DIFFERENT KINDS OF WALL MOUNTS?

Yes, all our enclosures can be used with any type of TV mount (flat, tilt, full motion, ceiling, or cart). Make sure your mount can hold the weight of your television and the enclosure.

HOW DO I CLEAN MY TV COVER?

THE TV SHIELD PRO® LOCKS WON’T TURN, AM I DOING SOMETHING WRONG?

1. Sometimes, especially for the first few months while the seal is still stiff, you may need to apply additional pressure pulling the back plate and the front frame together. This can be done by grabbing the back plate with your hand and pushing the front frame together with another person (or your shoulder if another person is not available) to really compress the seal while turning the lock.

2. If this does not work, the small threaded stud that the lock catches onto may have been shifted back in shipping. You can simply take a pair of pliers and bend the threaded stud towards the front of the enclosure by 3 to 4 degrees. This should allow for the cam arm which is attached to the locking mechanism to more freely engage on the stud.

3. Another scenario that we see from time to time is that the key is simply not all the way pushed into the lock. When you insert the key and start to turn, you need to put upwards pressure on the key to make sure it does not shift out a little bit. If the key does shift out even a millimeter it will not allow you to turn any further.

HOW LONG WILL A REGULAR TV LAST OUTSIDE?

Depending on the placement of a regular TV outdoors, it can last days to maybe a few years. If a TV is exposed to any kind of direct rain, snow or other extreme outdoor elements, you can expect it to last a very short time, like days. Other issues you want to be aware of are things like bugs getting into the TV and walking across the sensitive electronics or building nest inside which will surely damage the components. Dust, flying objects and simple moisture are all enemies of a regular indoor TV being placed outside. If you are placing a indoor TV outdoors and you are under a protected overhang or porch you could get lucky and have it last a year or two years, but the other issues like bug, dust and moisture still present a major issue and will severely shorten the lifespan of your investment. A great alternative is to use a outdoor TV cover like The TV Shield outdoor tv enclosure which protects your TV from all of the issues here.

HOW DO I PROTECT MY TV OUTSIDE?

Using a comprehensive outdoor TV cover enclosure that protects your TV from moisture, direct rain, snow, bugs, dust and theft is the most cost effective and sustainable option on the market. The TV Shield outdoor TV cover provides 360 degree coverage to combat these issues and includes filtered and protected heat exhaust ports, fan systems for moisture control and a clear shatter resistant front panel. Protecting your TV outside is no small feat due to all of the outdoor elements, but choosing the right outdoor tv cover can give you piece of mind and allow your indoor TV to last many years into the future with no issues.

DO I REALLY NEED AN OUTDOOR TV?

No, there are options available for you to use a regular indoor TV outdoors. Things like outdoor tv enclosures will give you the needed protection like moisture control, bug intrusion protection and complete weatherproofing needed to protect your TV in a outdoor environment. Another big plus to outdoor TV enclosures over an outdoor TV is theft and tamper protection. The TV Shield outdoor tv cover enclosure includes dual chambered key locks and shatter resistant front clear panels to protect against would be thieves or tampering. You may be able to get away with putting a indoor TV outside if it is tucked way back under a porch, but other things like moisture, bugs, dust and theft will drastically shorten the lifespan of your TV and any other electronics that need protected.

CAN YOU PUT A REGULAR TV ON A COVERED PATIO?

You can put a regular TV on a covered patio as long as it does not get any direct rain, sun, snow or other outdoor elements. How long that TV will last is another question. Most indoor TVs will fail in a short period of time even under a covered patio due to moisture, bug intrusion and dust building up on the internal components. The TV Shield outdoor TV cabinet can protect any indoor TV from not only direct rain and theft, but also protects from the other potential issues that can damage a TV like moisture, bugs and dust.

HOW DO I WEATHERPROOF MY TV OUTDOORS?

Using an outdoor TV enclosure is a cost effective and comprehensive solution to weatherproofing your TV for outdoor environments. Outdoor TV covers like The TV Shield and The TV Shield PRO are made to weatherproof your TV outdoors by offering complete 360 degree protection with things like hard case back housings using HMWPE polymer, shatter resistant clear front panels, dual and triple seal systems, heat exhaust ports with dust and bug shields, filtered fan systems for moisture control and even dual chambered and keyed locks for theft and tampering.

CAN I USE A REGULAR LCD TV OUTSIDE?

Typically the answer is no, but there are some options to allow for a regular LCD TV to be used outside and be completed protected. Regular LCD TVs are not protected against things like water, moisture, bug intrusion or extreme dust build up. Even if under a covered porch and not getting direct rain, the likely lifespan of the TV will be significantly shortened due other things like dust, moisture and bugs. If a bug simply walks across the wrong two electronic components in the LCD TV, than poof, you will be left wondering why you have no picture on the screen or no power. The TV Shield and The TV Shield PRO offer protection from all outdoor elements and also offer protection against theft, tampering and screens being broken by runaway balls being kicked or thrown by a youngster.
