Veterans Day: Protection and Sacrifice
noun \ˈsa-krə-ˌfīs, also -fəs or -ˌfīz\
: the act of giving up something that you want to keep especially in order to get or do something else or to help someone (according to Merriam-Webster)
Protection usually involves a sacrifice, and the willingness of one person to help others while knowingly giving up something for themselves. This is among the most honorable acts of humanity. Situations are unfortunately not rare in which individuals are called upon to make an ultimate sacrifice or place their life in danger to help another person. Time and again these sacrifices have been made, be it the heroes of the Underground Railroad who risked their lives to smuggle slaves out of oppression or the 1,369,532 members of the U.S. military currently on active duty (according to Wikipedia) who put their lives on the line daily to protect loved ones and strangers.
Despite the reality that the need for protectors is ever prevalent, the truth remains that it takes a special person to actually step up and fill that need. It takes a person who is willing to not only sacrifice time with their family, move to a foreign location, possibly give up dreams they planned to pursue and more, but someone willing to give up their very future and last breath in order to defend others. In a word, it takes a hero to make these sacrifices. What’s more amazing is that in addition to the 1,369,532 active military members and 850,000 reserve military currently serving the USA, 21.8 million Veterans are among us every day in the United States of America as of November 2013( according to the Snapshot of Our Nation’s Veterans provided by the United States census Bureau).
Each and every of these 23 million individuals (approximately) are a special kind of person. So on Veteran’s Day, with the heaviest of hearts and deepest of gratitude, PEC offers thanks to each of these individuals, and remembers the many souls who have already paid the ultimate sacrifice. Veterans, you are each a truly special sort of person, a hero, and we thank you.
Veterans Day is about truly honoring and thanking every service member hero who has made many sacrifices, so PEC is also donating $10 to the USO for every enclosure sold.
